The Wonder Girls recently rocked the ‘2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games’ in Greece with a fun performance of “Nobody“, “Tell Me“, and “Arirang“.

The girls were picked up to be South Korea’s representatives at the event.

To begin the recap, member Ye Eun shared some photos from the Special Olympics ceremony on July 4th, including one with fellow Wonder Girls member Sunye. She tweeted, “I came back from awarding,” and uploaded a picture of herself draping a medal over a winners’ neck.

Later, the Wonder Girls performed at the closing ceremony in Athens. The event holds great significance, for it promotes the acceptance of disabled peoples in society and gives them the opportunity to actively participate in sports. The audience cheered enthusiastically as the girls worked it for “Nobody” and “Tell Me”, before diving into a spectacular stage performance of Korea’s traditional anthem, “Arirang”.

The Wonder Girls will return to the States to record for their upcoming album.

Park Supports Bear Spray Recycle Program

Yellowstone is accepting bear spray canisters at most hotels, stores and at all park entrances.

Grand Teton National Park is proud to announce its participation in a new sustainability effort that recycles a specialized item commonly used in bear country: bear spray. In coordination, with other federal partners at Yellowstone National Park, the National Elk Refuge and surrounding national forests, Grand Teton recently placed collection bins at several locations to gather unwanted bear spray canisters and prepare them for recycling.

Millions of people visit the Greater Yellowstone Area each year, and thousands of bear spray canisters—used and unused—are disposed of in trash containers because they are not allowed on commercial flights, or visitors no longer have a need for the spray after they leave the area. These bear spray canisters enter the waste stream, causing a serious environmental concern. In addition, waste disposal workers are exposed to accidental discharge of pepper-laced propellant at disposal sites. To correct this problem, a new recycling center was established this year in Yellowstone.

The effort to curb the growing number of bear spray canisters in landfills emerged two years ago, when Yellowstone park managers and the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality agreed that a recycling project could resolve this issue. The solution came from three Montana State University (MSU) engineering students who designed a machine that removes the pepper oil and propellant before it crushes the canister. The recycling unit is able to extract all contents through a filtering process that safely separates the ingredients. The empty canisters are then punctured, flattened and sold to any recycling center as high quality aluminum.

Using the principles that were developed by the MSU students, a Montana-based manufacturing firm produced the first-of-its-kind canister recycling unit. The recycling unit, located at Mammoth in Yellowstone, began operating this spring. To fund manufacture of the specialized unit, donations were secured from the Greater Yellowstone Area business community.

"As National Park Service employees, we have a responsibility to be on the forefront of sustainable environmental practices, and we’re proud to join our federal partners in this recycling effort: an effort that has positive impacts across the Greater Yellowstone Area,” said Superintendent Mary Gibson Scott. “Grand Teton park personnel will take the lead in transporting canisters from collection sites within the greater Jackson area to the specialized recycling unit located in Yellowstone.”

Collection sites within Grand Teton National Park include: Colter Bay Visitor Center, Colter Bay Cabins, Jackson Lake Lodge, Jenny Lake Ranger Station, Jenny Lake Visitor Center, Gros Ventre Campground, Signal Mountain Lodge, and the Craig Thomas Discovery Visitor Center. Collection sites are also located at the Jackson Hole & Greater Yellowstone Visitor Center at the National Elk Refuge and Teton County Recycling at 3270 South Adams Canyon Road. In addition, collection sites are located at several private businesses, and at the Jackson Hole Airport beginning July 15.

Yellowstone opens official public comment period on proposed winter use plan

Those with concerns about a new winter-use plan proposed for Yellowstone National Park now have a chance to formally comment on it. The Park Service announced the proposal has been officially released for public review and comment Tuesday.

Yellowstone has been working on a new plan for months, hoping to establish lasting regulations after more than a decade of strife. The park has been sued and counter-sued over the number of snowmobiles and snowcoaches allowed in the park, by the tour operators who use the machines and environmentalists who want to limit their use.

Snowmobile and snowcoach tour operators have already complained the number of machines allowed in the park through the new proposal is too low.

The Park Service is accepting public comment for the next 60 days. A new plan must be in place by this December, or no winter use will be allowed in the park at all...more reads

Vineland teen, Bridgeton man wounded in shootings on Atlantic City Boardwalk

Two Cumberland County residents were shot following a large fight early Tuesday morning on the Atlantic City Boardwalk, police said.

The fight — which involved 15 people and drew a crowd of about 100 onlookers — happened at about 1 a.m. in the beach block of Michigan Avenue.

K-9 units visited the scene to assist with crowd control. Additional officers were stationed along Arkansas Avenue and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

As officers broke up the fight, shots rang out, police said. The crowd scattered. Officers found two gunshot victims — a 17-year-old Vineland boy, who was hit in the left leg, and a 22-year-old Bridgeton man, who was hit in the upper chest. Both victims were conscious when they were taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus in Atlantic City. The teen was treated and released. The man remained in the hospital, listed in stable condition, Atlantic City police Sgt. Monica McMenamin said.

McMenamin said investigators will be interviewing the victim at the hospital to try to gather further information as his condition improves.

Police describe the shooting suspect as a black man wearing a dark-colored V-neck short-sleeved shirt, khaki shorts and dark shoes. The suspect fled on foot northbound on Michigan Avenue.

While checking the area, police found a handgun at the Bally’s Park Place bus terminal.

Bally’s security and surveillance departments are assisting police in the investigation...... more read

Foundation awards grants to 19 groups in Atlantic, Cape May counties

The Ocean City Home Charitable Foundation has awarded grants totaling $50,000 to 19 nonprofit organizations in Atlantic and Cape May counties.

The following organizations received funding: ARC of Atlantic County, Atlantic Cape Family Support Organization, Atlantic City Ballet, Atlantic County Womens Center, Atlantic Riding Center for Health, Brendan Borek Memorial Fund, Cape Shore Chorale, Career Opportunity Development Inc., CASA, Community Arts Project, Contact Cape Atlantic, Covenant House New Jersey, Friends of the Ocean City Pops Inc., Habitat for Humanity Atlantic County, Make a Wish Foundation New Jersey, Ocean City Ecumenical Council, Ocean City Fine Arts League, Ocean City Lifesaving Station and the Ocean City Tabernacle.

The grants were awarded June 15 during the foundation’s semiannual awards reception.

Jean Jacobson, president of the foundation, said in a press release that the organizations that received grants were selected because they are “doing work that is desperately needed.”......more reads

"Our July 4th Fireworks display was listed among the top in the country by AOL Travel - ranked number two just below New York City - but the real success for us is that visitors are coming to Atlantic City to experience more than just the best casinos around. They are staying longer and making Atlantic City a true vacation destination."

It's no surprise that the two charter boat companies offering special July 4th Firework Cruises: Jessie O' Fishing & Cruising departing from Captain Andy's Marina in Margate and Atlantic City Cruises Cruisin' One departing from Atlantic City's Historic Gardner's Basin both quickly sold out their special holiday cruises. AC Cruises also sold out the daily Dolphin Watching Cruise on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Lucy the Elephant in nearby Margate also had a very strong weekend, according to Executive Director Rich Helfant, with visitor numbers increased by 20 percent over last year for the Friday through Monday holiday weekend.

tristane Banon is a French writer, born (born: 13 June, 1979) in Neuilly-sur-Seine. She is the daughter of Anne Mansouret, Socialist vice-president of the general council of Eure, representing Évreux-Est, in Upper Normandy.

Tristane Banon was born in Neuilly-sur-Seine, Île-de-France on 13 June 1979.Banon earned a diploma from the Ecole Supérieure de Journalisme de Paris in 2000, and initially worked in casual jobs as a journalist, as an anchorwoman on a television show about new information and communication technologies, and as a sport journalist. She was employed in the politics department, and later the cultural department, of the French weekly Paris-Match, then worked at the daily newspaper Le Figaro.

She published her first book, a long essay entitled Erreurs avouées…(au masculin) in November 2002 (Anne Carrière Ed.). She wrote her first novel J’ai oublié de la tuer using childhood memories as subject matter. It was published in September 2004 by éditions Anne Carrière (édition Le Livre de poche n° 30743).

In 2007, Banon alleged on a television program that she was the victim of an attempted rape by Dominique Strauss-Kahn during an interview while she was researching Erreurs avouées in 2002.She described Strauss-Kahn as a "rutting chimpanzee" but his name was censored from the broadcast.On 16 May 2011, her lawyer said she was planning to file a complaint against Strauss-Kahn. As China’s top Communists gathered Friday morning on the stage beneath a giant hammer and sickle in the Great Hall of the People there was one very conspicuous absentee.


Former Chinese President and Communist Party General Secretary Jiang Zemin (pictured) has been present at almost all major ceremonial events since he handed the country’s reins to his successor, Hu Jintao, in 2003.


The Communist Party of China celebrated the 90th anniversary of its founding on Friday and the celebrations in the Great Hall in central Beijing’s Tiananmen Square were attended by 6,000 of the country’s nomenklatura.


But despite the attendance of many other senior cadres from Jiang’s administration, including former Premiers Zhu Rongji and Li Peng, the former commander-in-chief was nowhere to be found.


Unconfirmed Hong Kong media reports have suggested in recent months that Jiang, 84, has been hit by a serious illness that has left him incapacitated or at least unable to appear in public.


The health of senior serving or retired Chinese officials is usually considered a state secret and off-limits for tightly controlled Chinese media but in most cases the death of a top leader or former leader is announced within one or two days.


In 2009, Jiang stood next to President Hu on the rostrum overlooking Tiananmen Square as the People’s Republic of China celebrated its 60th birthday with a huge military parade.


In December last year, Jiang did not attend the funeral of former Chinese foreign minister Huang Hua, prompting tea-leaf reading political analysts and the Beijing gossip mill to speculate that he was too sick to appear in public.


Jiang was appointed to China’s top political posts in 1989 in the midst of the Tiananmen demonstrations and subsequent brutal crackdown.


More than a decade later he oversaw the first ever orderly transition of power in the history of the PRC when he stepped down in favour of Hu, although he retained enormous power within the Party, government and military and was still consulted on many issues until very recently. Read More
