Celine Ng Swee Peng Housemate arrested in agent’s murder case

Forensic tests have established the identity of the body to be Ms Celine Ng Swee Peng, 37, who had been missing since her birthday on May 26.

The suspect, who was arrested at about 11pm at East Coast Park, is believed to be Ms Ng’s housemate in a two-bedroom apartment in Clementi. The suspect will be charged in court today with murder, which carries the death penalty.

According to a report published in The New Paper last month, Ms Ng had been drinking with her friends in her apartment on the eve of her birthday, when she spoke about going for a short holiday overseas.

The following day, Ms Ng, who apparently had her mobile phone and passport with her, was nowhere to be found. Her parents, older brother and her housemate reported the fact that Ms Ng was missing to the police on May 28.

In the report, Ms Ng’s housemate described her as having a “very close relationship with her mum”. “She wouldn’t be away for so many days without contacting her mum. We’re so worried that something may have happened to her,” the housemate was quoted as saying.

Yesterday evening, the suspect led police investigators to West Coast Park, where they spent about an hour trawling through some bushes, purportedly looking for Ms Ng’s personal belongings and to gather evidence. The bushes were even chopped down but MediaCorp understands nothing was recovered from the spot.

The suspect, who was cuffed on her wrists and ankles, kept her head bowed most of the time.

A 36-year-old Singaporean woman was arrested on Monday night in connection with the suspected murder of a property agent, whose highly decomposed body was found last Tuesday evening in bushes off Clementi Road.

Kristin Kreuk has joined the cast of '17th Precinct.' Please excuse us while we flail about in excitement.

Let's do a brief history of '17th Precinct' and why it may be the best pilot ever. First, news broke that 'Battlestar Galactica' mastermind Ron Moore was developing a show at NBC. Then, the plot of the series came out: Harry Potter meets 'Law & Order.' Boom, we were sold.

However, it just kept getting better from there! Casting began with 'The West Wing' star Stockhard Channing. Then 'Battlestar Galactica''s Jamie Bamber joined the cast, quickly followed by fellow BSG vets James Callis and Tricia Helfer. Matt Long and Eamonn Walker also boarded the project.

And now, TVLine is reporting Kreuk (you may know her from a little show called 'Smallville'), will appear in the pilot.

Lana Lang Kreuk will play Susan Longstreet, the wife of Bamber's character. While it's only a guest role for now, it's safe to say she'd show up again if NBC picks up the series.

The pilot is set in a fictional town where magic trumps science. Helfer plays a necromancer (like a magical coroner), Callis and Channing are detectives, and Bamber is a crime scene expert.

To summarize why you should be excited: Magic, cops, 'Battlestar Galactica' cast, Kristin Kreuk.

【蔡厝港房间出租】主人房无中介无房东

The screenshot above might just be misconstrued as that of a porn site. I mean, what's the deal with the lack of, uhm, clothing in a website of one which is supposedly that of a cafe.

Yes. It's a screenshot of Cafe Miss Cutie website, cafemisscutie.com...

And now this cafe makes it to the news as the police are apparently not amused with the idea of sexy women serving coffee (or tea or ???) to their customers. Heh.

SOME Vietnamese women in Orange County, California claim they are running coffee houses, but police there are not convinced.

At Cafe Miss Cutie, the windows are tinted but not pitch black. The waitresses are wearing negligees but not naked. And patrons are being urged to smoke outside.

But, these businesses may not last long. A host of new rules have been put in place by authorities to crack down on illegal gambling and nudity at some cafes.

A city ordinance aimed at curbing illegal activity in Garden Grove's Vietnamese coffeehouses went into effect Friday.

The Garden Grove Police Department, however, is still in the early stages of enforcing the law, which prohibits nudity and bans arcade games inside the cafes, said Capt. Todd Elgin of the Community Policing Bureau.

The coffeehouses, which have proliferated in recent years, are known for strong Vietnamese coffee, pulsating music and waitresses clad in lacy lingerie.

Under the ordinance, cafe owners are required to remove any window tinting and to make sure women wear clothing that covers private parts.

On Thursday, the department hand-delivered letters of intent in English and in Vietnamese to each cafe. The letters summarized the changes to the ordinance, which was passed in May.

Police intend to meet next week to discuss a method of enforcement.

"I think we’re trying to be fair," Elgin said. "Obviously this is going to be a shock to the system. We’ve already made enough waves."

In March, more than 150 federal and law enforcement officials raided the coffeehouses and seized 186 gambling machines police believe could be disguised as arcade games.

In one cafe alone, police found more than more than $35,000. Police also responded to reports of full nudity and cigarette smoking within the coffeehouses.

On Friday, many of the cafes, including Cafe Miss Cute, Stars Cafe and Cafe Di Vang 2, had yet to remove window tinting.

A waitress who declined to be identified at Cafe Miss Cutie said the tinting would be removed soon.

She also wins another title, Miss Body Beautiful. Don't ask me what the assessment questionnaires are like. Heh.

Out of curiousity, I went to check the official website for the organiser of Miss Singapore Universe 2011. The website titled, "Derrol Stepenny" (www.derrolstepenny.com). Surprisingly, though, it may not yet be updated. See this curious screenshot? Heh.

A bit disappointed that I couldn't find out whether Ms Valerie Lim blogs or not. Anyway, here are what I consider the top 4 photos of hers:

So is it just me or is that true that she looks much more captivating when she doesn't smile? Oh well...Shrugs.

The winner of the Miss Singapore Universe pageant clearly stood out from the rest of the competition.

Miss Valerie Lim, 25, is a leggy 1.79m tall.

The behavioural therapist was crowned at the Shangri-La Hotel last night.

She also won a subsidiary title, Miss Body Beautiful.

She will go on to represent Singapore in the Miss Universe 2011 International pageant at Sao Paulo, Brazil in September.

Judges told The New Paper they were impressed with Valerie's confidence and wit. She was also articulate and handled the Q & A segment well.

Judge Mr Bernard Lim said: "She exuded confidence throughout the night, right up to the question-and-answer segment. You could tell she was comfortable and not nervous."

Valerie had previously participated in and also won Miss Earth Singapore in 2009, and said that the experience boosted her confidence on stage.
